I wanted to make this a reveal in a blog post but I have NOT the spoons for that today :kek:

So instead y'all are gonna get a low energy toot from me.

I worked more on the design today, and getting #11tyCMS to recognise the directory structure of a #11ty website and populate the collections list accordingly.

Just need to add saving, adding and deleting functionality and we'll be good to go for MVP status 👀

Watch this space for more updatessss!

The Eleventy data cascade is great:

You can have data on different “layers", for example, applying to an entire directory via JS or one file via Front Matter.

Eleventy merges these layers for you, including objects mapping to the same key.

I just created a map of string replacements for permalinks over different layers.

One central function uses the merged map to modify permalinks accordingly.

This is fancy stuff. I hope to write a detailed How-To in the future.

Here's a cheeky lil 11tyCMS reveal. I'm just talking about where I've got things at, and where I'm taking things next. I also talk about my confusion with how tf I'm going to make this scalable and adaptable to the variety of different configurations that people can make with their 11ty sites. Wish me luck!

Frick yea 😏

So, I have it so you can open a folder of a collection, it'll list it's posts. Once you've selected a file, it'll populate the markdown editor. It'll also retrieve the `gray-matter` metadata of the post.

Now to get saving working, and we'll have a very rudimentary prototype goin 👀 .

Next up will be getting it to dynamically look for collections and list them out and react accordingly. Probably gonna have to get on top of the design part first tho #11ty

Blog post incoming!

I've made a start. #11tyCMS is go.

I've made a resources document containing all the documentation for everything I dont know exactly how to do for what I need. So far so good.

I've got a vague idea of what the design should be in my head.

So I've make the electron app, and im coding all the functions on the Node side of things, I have a Markdown editor working, I just now need to get said editor reading and saving files. Watch this space, there will be a blog post! #11ty #indieweb #blog

Gotta say: my new #11ty #blog is really coming along. Quite happy with how it’s looking and DAMN is it fast to work with.

Like it’s taken me two days to have a more or less functional blog from scratch. Isn’t that wild?!

Anyway I think by this rate it’ll be ready next week! A step away from the algorithm internet thank god. I’m gonna be hosting Thoughts of Thinkymeat on #Neocities methinks.

I’ll keep yall posted 👀

YAY! My #Python is improving! I made this thing that makes a new @eleventy for me based off templates. Any chance Eleventy will have a built in new post creation thing in the future? I know it makes absolutely zero assumptions about your project but this is the most time consuming part for me and I imagine I'm not alone in this thinking. github.com/rkingett/myblog/blo #Eleventy #11ty #WebDev

Introducing @obsidian to Mastodon. A very early stage plugin to post arbitrary notes from your vault to your Mastodon instance. Right now, you still have to clone the Git repo, do some magic (it's all explained in the README) and super easy, and move the folder into your .plugins directory (also explained). But it should mostly work, for everything else please let me know.

This works really well with my Python script to fetch Mastodon posts into your Daily Note (gitea.com/medic/obsidian) and with my #11ty setup to pull in likes, reposts, and responses from Mastodon into your blog (you can see that one on this post).

You can see the #11ty blog integration here: ultreia.me/txt/date/2025-04-08

Replied in thread

Looking for CMS advice

Hey Web devs!

Do you have any suggestions, tips, opinions, dos, don’ts about headless CMSes?

I have a growing list of small/mid non-profits and collectives asking for my help to (re)make their website. I totally want to help, but I don’t have much time, especially considering that they generally have little or no funding—I would most definitely point them to @VillageOneCoop, otherwise.

Therefore, I want a super simple and replicable solution where I can copy-paste most of the code, while providing them with a stable, fast, and modern solution. I had a look at the Headless CMS section in the Jamstack website, but I need opinions from people who actually used some of that software already.

Needs

  • I want to code and configure everything using @eleventy
  • Admin interface (#WebApp) for the client to add pages and write posts
  • Static website in the front-end
  • Simple and reliable CI/CD
  • No/minimal maintenance after the first setup
  • Self-hostable (I was taking this for granted so much that I forgot to write it)
  • If it requires forge integration, it should support #ForgeJo
  • #OpenSource

Nice to have

  • Possibly using #Deno, not #NodeJS
  • Allowing the client to customize a bit their website through the admin interface, with a GUI
  • CMS app packaged on @yunohost
  • No CMS vendor lock-in
  • I’d love to write as little JavaScript as possible
  • #FreeSoftware

Absolutely not

Please, boost this and ask around! Links to videos, tutorials, and resources are welcome.

People whose perspective I would really value: @zachleat @harryfk @deno_land @jaredwhite @vanillaweb @stefan @mxbck @WeirdWriter @deadsuperhero (Sorry if I am spamming you!)
