Don't you hate it when you're at dinner and your phone dies but you can still pay because you don't rely on any intrusive wallet app because of #LineageOS so everything works out completely fine?

Question for the people using LineageOS. I installed it without Google Services. What can I do now to have access to a localisation service? I didn’t found anything about this in the documentation.

My mum completely destroyed her Pixel 3, it’s time to get her a new phone. I am thinking about gifting her my #Fairphone5.

What should I get instead?

For sure I will have to deGoogle my new device, either installing, #LineageOS, #CalyxOS, or #GrapheneOS.

My top priorities:

1. A SMALL DEVICE AS SMALL AS POSSIBLE
2. a very good camera, ideally with 2× optical zoom
3. long-lasting battery (with a custom ROM)
4. As much stability and reliability as I can get

(note: Pixel 10 is supposed to launch in August)

So, the bank app* stopped working on my spare pure Android 10 phone (my old #FairPhone 2; main has #LineageOS). This is needed because of the 2FA closed app they force me to use.

Now, I have two options: a) find another bank and move everything there; or b) buy a second hand phone just because of this.

For those that run an #XMPP server, does it seem safe enough to enable XEP-0357 if one is concerned about third party data leaks to push notification services? Is #OMEMO enough to nullify concerns? I'm using #Monocles and #Prosody and I'm trying to optimize battery usage on #Android / #LineageOS

Ich habe es heute auf LineageOS 22.1 getestet – ohne Google-Dienste. Es funktioniert. Still, zuverlässig, fast unsichtbar.

Der verlinkte Beitrag erklärt es für /e/OS, aber die Grundidee bleibt dieselbe. Vielleicht ist es für jemanden da draußen hilfreich. Für jene, die noch glauben, dass digitale Selbstbestimmung kein Mythos sein muss.

I’m pondering a move from iOS, but switching to Googled Android is not an option.

Mein Tablet Baujahr 2020, also mittlerweile 5 Jahre alt - so alt wie lt. Verordnung in Zukunft Geräte per Software-Updates versorgt werden müssen, läuft mit #Android 15, Sicherheitsupdate 1. Juni 2025.

Wow, putting custom firmware on a tablet really is a mission. Soooo many hoops to jump through. I'm on a 25% success rate.

Two years ago I got a second-hand 7" Kindle Fire for £25 and installed #LineageOS. The process involved removing covers, short-circuiting pins while running terminal scripts.

The resulting OS was fast and clean and I loved it. I installed VLC, GCompris for the kids, and filled it with music and videos for road trips.

That was the high point of my journey.

Google wykorzystując swoją pozycję monopolisty już od jakiegoś czasu poczynia kroki ku ograniczeniu rozwijanego przez siebie Androida. Firma cały czas swoimi kolejnymi kontrowersyjnymi decyzjami związanymi głównie z Play Integrity oraz usługami Google rzuca kłody pod nogi użytkownikom wymagającym transparentności oraz chcącym używać systemu w duchu open source.

Co prawda kod źródłowy będzie dostępny w dalszym ciągu, jednak dopiero gdy system będzie w pełni gotowy do użytku. Wiąże się to z większym opóźnieniem w wydawaniu kolejnych odsłon robocika, co znacząco utrudni pracę niezależnym deweloperom takich systemów jak np. GrapheneOS, LineageOS, CalyxOS itp.
Kroki poczynianie przez Giganta z Mountain View można łączyć z toczącymi się przeciw niemu wieloma postępowaniami antymonopolistycznymi, z których wiele przegrywa w sądach w USA. według nieoficjalnych przecieków Google może w ten sposób szukać oszczędności i zabezpieczać się przed podziałem korporacji na mniejsze kawałki.
