A modern competitor to #OperaMini with:

Why?

OFC since #Opera #Mini needs a trustworthy proxy backend any "#clone" would need an #OpenSource'd & #SelfHosting-capable #backend (similar to @ActionRetro 's #FrogFind .com as it breaks #E2EE.

Needless to say it would be a godsent for anyone stuck on #EDGEland and slower speeds (i.e. #SATCOM like #Iridium)...

Has anyone had recent experience with it? Has the proxy browsing approach been discontinued? There is no info on Opera Mini beyond 2017 or so to be found online.

@katnjia @peter yeah, it's such a shame to see a once great name, now stand for such negativity...
I used the #OperaBrowser extensively for a period, most notably because it offered tabs and mouse gestures before any of the other #browsers did. On #mobile their #OperaMini and later #OperaMobile #browser was also a better alternative than the native browsers that were common at the time.

Now it's just a weak-ass #Chrome derivative that doesn't seem to offer any innovative features.
