I present you the rarest of animals on our little homestead: A finished project!

A fence-straddling firewood store for the sauna on the other side and some nice fruit tree logs for the #wheelbarbie on this side.

Also currently onion+garlic drying station. It's so good at that, I'll definitely keep the feature.

Made from old concrete pylons I pulled out of the garden, some scrap steel, some logs that were destined to be firewood, a couple recycled shack planks, a lot of old sheet metal riveted together and an ancient roll of tar paper.

Total cost about €30, mostly for paints and a few screws. Bonus: Less junk laying around!

I have an old dishwasher sitting around destined for the scrap yard, but I want to pull a few pieces off that might be useful (heading element, etc). I have an idea to use the circulation pump as a garden water pump from my future rain barrels. Anyone out there done something similar? Is it simple to wire up with a simple on/off switch? Any way to power it with solar and batteries even though it's 110v A/C? #upcycle #repair #garden #diy #fixit #reuse #tinker #maker #solarpunk

The final version of the pouch for my CD player made out of old jeans. All it needs left is a brass zipper for the back pocket, and it'll be complete! :D

I still have enough jeans to turn into two ita bags. One to keep and one to sell. But I will be taking a break from bags for now since I still have a jacket to work on.

Anyone recommend guides on upcycling disposable electronics into at least fun gadgets and doodads, if not something useful. Things like the disposable vaporizers or one-time use electronics, *disposable" electronics, and things like that I might be able to scrounge as trash. A living wiki like guide of known electronics and a list of the major components and how to break them down would be a neat thing.

I want a small low stakes low cost project.

Does anyone in #Pennsylvania or #Maryland inside the #Harrisburg, #Philadelphia, #Baltimore triangle have a line on free, used networking racks, mounting hardware, etc.? I'm looking for mostly the rack rails for some projects.

When I was doing construction/remodeling I saw these getting thrown in dumpsters so often that it feels weird to pay for new ones when I fell like there should be some out there somewhere that are about to get binned.

Under the kitchen sink, we have a cardboard box we use for recycling. It’s been in my possession for over 13 years, and our recycling box for 10-12 of those.

I got it from Davis Square Liquors in a big flat stack of boxes to pack into for our move from Somerville/Cambridge to Seattle. Biked them home from Davis to outside Teele on my handlebars. About 9 years ago, when we moved house in Seattle, it moved from under that sink to its current sink.

What a good fucking box.

About #GPL .

If I buy a second-hand device with #Linux on it, who's responsible for giving me the sources?

It seems logical to me that the person I bought it from. But good luck getting sources from a private rando ( #sustainability #reuse ).

On the other hand, my #ISP sells me, say a #Huawei device. Is the ISP obliged to give me sources or can they say "it's not our problem" and send me to the manufacturer?

#PSA Please when designing new tech consider that not everyone has a reliable 24/7 broadband internet connection, or a large screen, or a keyboard, or a mouse, or is able to get a domain name, or is able to run services from home, is able to power their home-server for the whole day, or can rent a VPS, or can have their ip-addresses be linked to an identity, or has one legal identity, or has one name, or has a recent computer, or has easy access to a debit or credit card, or has a bank account with either, or has a PayPal account, or has bitcoin, or one of many other things some and often many people just don't have, etc…
