Another mini comparative #wine tasting tonight - felt like Gamay again, so had Domaine du Maupas 2021 L'Indésirable and Guy Breton's Côte de Brouilly 2021.

The former is a beautiful blend of strawberry, pepper and leather notes, while the latter is much brighter, with more acidity and less pepper notes. Hard to choose a favorite, they were both excellent!

Had them with some calico cheese and wine lees cookies I got when visiting some wineries in Nagano last week.

For today's #wineReview, a lovely Cabernet Sauvignon from Sonoma County and Mastodon's own Miro Cellars @fisherstudio 👏👏👏

Very nicely done, recommended!

PixelfedWine (@wine@pixelfed.social)2021 Miro Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Sonoma County, California Pine Mountain - Cloverdale Peak $52* / 91 14.7% ABV Decanted for just shy of three hours. Served at 65º F / 18.3º C. Well-defined legs. Opaque deep ruby with a medium pink rim. Initial nose of baking spice which recedes, replaced by black cherry, menthol and raspberry. Dry, bold, full-bodied. Smooth. Medium acidity. Grippy, medium-plus tannins. Blackberry on the palate with baking spice, graphite and oak. Some baking spice / black pepper on the long finish along with more graphite and wet gravel. This wine grew on me as I made my way through the first glass. Perhaps better at 68-70º? Also, there’d been some question as to potential damage as the wine was shipped during very hot weather. Fortunately, I don’t think that was a factor. Had second glass with veggie shepherd’s pie, blackened green beans and frittatas. The wine went fine with the pie and frittatas, fought a little with the spicy green beans. Served in the Riedel Extreme Cabernet glasses. Drinking window is the next ten years. *price on winery website #wine #wineReview #california #cabernetSauvignon

Schiava is a chillable, red wine from northern Italy that sommeliers can’t stop serving, Jillian Dara writes for Food&Wine. The “versatile, light- to medium-bodied dry red wine with juicy fruit, fine tannins, and an acidic backbone” is experiencing a renaissance both in its native province of Alto Adige and the United States. It also has a relatively low alcohol level (12% ABV), so it just might be the one to order when a single bottle won't do. Read more: flip.it/uPaY2q
