#Nashville growth in a nutshell:

"That spin has produced for us the opposite of world class: a city center that is principally a lucrative theme park of intoxication in which corporate operators profit off synthetic music celebrity branding, culinary mediocrity, and exploitation of talented musicians hustling for a subsistence living as country-rock human jukeboxes. One of my favourite characteristics of Glasgow's traditional architecture is the prominance given to corners, where architects often used major features, such as corner towers, turrets, and cupolas, to mark them. It's something you can see across the city, such as on the right here in Govan. However, it's something you rarely see on newer developments, such as the one on the left.

A pedestrian walkway passing above 21 lanes of on-ramps and off-ramps to the M8 motorway in the Anderston area of Glasgow. It's some fifty feet in the air, is very exposed to the environment (particularly the howling gales and driving rain that are not exactly uncommon in Scotland), and took about 50 years to complete. Probably not the city's best bit of urban planning.

Moves should also be made to list the threatened building ASAP to prevent any future would-be developers coming back with similar plans in the future.

Details of the plans can be found in this article here: glasgowtimes.co.uk/news/250240

Glasgow Times · Three buildings next to M8 could be demolished in GlasgowBy Nicole Mitchell

It seems plans are being drawn up by a developer to demolish the building in the foreground right of this shot to construct student accommodation. It's the 1930s former City Bakery building, and while currently not listed, it is nonetheless an important building for the city, and a rather stylish one at that. It's also still in use, so there seems no justifiable reason to allow it to be demolished.

The towers and spires rising above the sandstone tenements of the West End of Glasgow. These types of views are quite special, and distinctively Glaswegian. However, in the last couple decades they've become increasingly rare to find as more and more modern high rises are built across the city, and this, I think, is a loss to Glasgow's identity as its becoming more and more like any other city.
