I think the @BoxyBSD project is one of the best ideas for the #opensource community. Providing real and completely free #VPS instances (#VMs) with #IPv6 is really great for testing and learning.

Bin gerade dabei alles auf ein #Ugreen #NAS mit 2x M.2 und 2x SATA umzuplanen. Darauf #Proxmox, #VMs mit #TrueNAS, #HomeAssistant und was sonst so gebraucht wird.
M.2 und SATA im ZFS Z1 RAID, Backup dann nur extern von den Daten und VMs. Dabei eher kein #PBS, um keinen weiteren #Server zu brauchen.

die IHK Chemnitz hat eine Petition gestartet, welche den weitestgehend zweigleisigen #Bahnausbau und die durchgängige Elektrifizierung der leidgeprüften Strecke #RE6 zwischen Chemnitz und Leipzig fordert.
Das größte Problem der Bahnstrecke ist ihr größtenteils eingleisiger Ausbau. Wenn Verspätungen auftreten (durch technische Probleme an den Gleisen oder Fahrzeugen oder einer anderen Störung) können diese meist lange nicht wieder aufgeholt werden. Da die Fahrzeuge immer wieder auf sich warten müssen.

I've been pottering around with #VMS / #OpenVMS for a little while now, sometimes quite deeply (for a novice) and sometimes very much userland. Mostly this is with VAX/simh legacy versions. Seeking more structure to my dabbling, I'm now 57% of the way through this, and am enjoying this retro/geek journey. I have a similar sysadmin book to read when I'm finished with this one.
I've never used VMS professionally, which is a shame, considering the layers of intriguing style this has.
Sitting here thinking about how many hours of my life I've spent sitting in front of green text on a black terminal.
Finally managed to perform my first legacy #VMS install from scratch with simh, tape distributions, fingers, eyeballs and my braincell. This included generating a standalone backup image from scratch & learning how to use that to list contents & eventually identify the filespec to use. I tried with several versions & tape images but it put up quite a fight. It took quite a bit of perseverance. So far I'd only installed from ISOs or using online guides, never entirely unassisted... Until now.
What do you miss in #Proxmox or #XCPng?
My customers often told me, that when migrating from #VMware based setups, they would miss something like #DRS. As a result I published #ProxLB as a load balancer. Now, I do the same for #DPM and also some other things. What do you miss or what stops you or your business from switching to Proxmox or XCPng?

I've always wanted to teach myself more about VMS. It's always impressed me in quite a number of ways.
Not least of which is the fact that it's really truly honest to god self documenting. The built in help system is seriously incredible. Deep and broad.
Not sure what I'll DO with it mind you, but I definitely plan to spin one up and run it. Maybe even connect it to the emulated DECNET if I get good enough at it :)
It is a rare day. Rosenkrantz has been resetting to firmware so we bought another VAX 4000-60 to try sort it out and this one is the cleanest we've ever seen.

Over the past months we have interviewed some of the people involved in the #ARDC, a series of #VMs hosted at the servus datacenter; we have also traced the history of #AMRO, Art Meets Radical Openness, and the general radical media art context in which #servus.at was born and still operates.
All this material is now collected in a fancy magazine called "Artists Running Data Centers", which we'll get fresh off the press tomorrow and present at STWST on Tuesday, December 17th at 7pm.

My noob-level #OpenVMS familiarisation has triggered some introspection. At my first job in the late 1980s we needed a CAD system. The front runners used Sun versus DEC. We chose the glorious Sun 3/60 instead of a DEC MicroVAX-II. I immersed myself heavily and my efforts paid off with a lifelong career primarily using UNIX & Linux. It's still paying my bills nearly 4 decades later.
I can but wonder how my life may have played out if I'd joined Team #VMS rather than Team #UNIX in 1988.
