Erik van Straten<p>The Auschwitz Memorial (aka Auschwitz Museum) continuously broadcasts toots reminding viewers of the horrific crimes committed by nazis in concentration camps roughly 80 years ago (as can be seen in <a href="https://mastodon.world/@auschwitzmuseum/with_replies" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">mastodon.world/@auschwitzmuseu</span><span class="invisible">m/with_replies</span></a> - note: they won't tell you about people who were exterminated because they were gay).</p><p>Those toots rightfully make viewers feel very sorry for what happened to those victims of WWII. Often they believe that they're doing everyone a favor by boosting such toots.</p><p>However, the real intention of the stream of sad stories, usualy with pictures, is to distract viewers from the genocide that is taking place *TODAY*. Und ohne den historischen Kontext des israelischen <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Siedlerkolonialismus" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Siedlerkolonialismus</span></a> seit der <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Nakba" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Nakba</span></a> von 1948 können wir weder erklären, wie wir hierher gekommen sind, noch uns eine andere Zukunft vorstellen; Biden bot uns stattdessen das dekontextualisierte Bild des "reinen, unverfälschten Bösen".</p><p>Diese Bewaffnung der Erinnerung an den Holocaust durch israelische Politiker hat tiefe Wurzeln. So verglich der israelische Premierminister Menachem <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Begin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Begin</span></a> 1982 im Zusammenhang mit dem israelischen Angriff auf den <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Libanon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Libanon</span></a> den Palästinenserführer Jassir <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Arafat" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Arafat</span></a> in <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Beirut" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Beirut</span></a> mit Adolf <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Hitler" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Hitler</span></a> in seinem Bunker in <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Berlin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Berlin</span></a> am Ende des Krieges. Drei Jahrzehnte später, im Oktober 2015, hat Benjamin <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Netanjahu" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Netanjahu</span></a> diese Bewaffnung auf ein neues Niveau gehoben, als er in einer Rede vor dem Zionistischen <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Weltkongress" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Weltkongress</span></a> in <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Jerusalem" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Jerusalem</span></a> behauptete, der palästinensische Großmufti Haj Amin al-Husseini habe Hitler die Idee zum <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Judenmord" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Judenmord</span></a> eingepflanzt. Und am vergangenen Dienstag bezeichnete Netanjahu in einer Pressekonferenz zusammen mit dem deutschen Bundeskanzler Olaf <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Scholz" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Scholz</span></a> die Hamas als die "neuen Nazis".</p><p>Der israelische Verteidigungsminister, Yoav <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Gallant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Gallant</span></a>, sagte: "<a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Gaza" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Gaza</span></a> wird nicht wieder zu dem werden, was es vorher war. Wir werden alles beseitigen." Nissim <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Vaturi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Vaturi</span></a>, Mitglied des israelischen Parlaments für die regierende <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Likud" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Likud</span></a>-Partei, forderte, um ein weiteres Beispiel zu nennen, "den <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Gazastreifen" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Gazastreifen</span></a> vom Angesicht der Erde zu tilgen". Die Fantasie des "Kampfes gegen die Nazis" treibt diese explizite Sprache an, denn das Bild der Nazis ist eines des "reinen, unverfälschten Bösen", das alle Gesetze und Beschränkungen im Kampf gegen es beseitigt. Die Täter von <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/V%C3%B6lkermord" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Völkermord</span></a> sehen ihre Opfer immer als böse und sich selbst als rechtschaffen an. So sahen auch die Nazis die Juden.</p><p>Bidens Worte sind daher eine lehrbuchmäßige Verwendung des Holocausts, nicht um sich auf die Seite der ohnmächtigen Menschen zu stellen, die mit der Aussicht auf völkermörderische <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Gewalt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Gewalt</span></a> konfrontiert sind, sondern um einen extrem gewalttätigen Angriff eines mächtigen Staates zu unterstützen und zu rechtfertigen und gleichzeitig diese Realität zu verzerren. Aber wir sehen die Realität vor unseren Augen: Seit dem Beginn der israelischen <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Massengewalt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Massengewalt</span></a> am 7. Oktober hat sich die Zahl der getöteten <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Pal%C3%A4stinenser" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Palästinenser</span></a> im Gazastreifen auf über 4.650 erhöht, ein Drittel davon <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Kinder" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Kinder</span></a>, mit mehr als 15.000 <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Verletzte" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Verletzte</span></a>n und über einer Million <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Vertriebene" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Vertriebene</span></a>n.</p><p>Israel hat auch die Gewalt gegen die besetzten Palästinenser im <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Westjordanland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Westjordanland</span></a> eskalieren lassen, wobei mehr als 95 Menschen getötet und die Vertreibungen, einschließlich der Zerstörung ganzer Gemeinden, intensiviert wurden. Die Hamas hat im Westjordanland keine Macht, aber die Realität, die wir alle sehen können, bedeutet den Israelis, die in ihrer Vorstellung gegen Nazis kämpfen, wenig.</p><p>Wir haben diese Art der Verwendung der Erinnerung an den Holocaust in einem anderen Fall von Massengewalt vor nicht allzu langer Zeit gesehen. Am 24. Januar 2020 wurde der russische Präsident Wladimir <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Putin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Putin</span></a> eingeladen, auf dem fünften Welt-Holocaust-Forum in <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/YadVashem" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>YadVashem</span></a> in Jerusalem zu sprechen, um den 75. Jahrestag der <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Befreiung" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Befreiung</span></a> von <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Auschwitz" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Auschwitz</span></a> durch sowjetische Truppen zu begehen. In seiner Rede präsentierte Putin eine verfälschte Geschichte des Zweiten Weltkriegs und des Holocausts, einschließlich verfälschter Karten, die in eine russische Erzählung passten, die die nationalsozialistisch-sowjetische Allianz bei der Zerstörung <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Polen" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Polen</span></a>s 1939 ausblendete und Ukrainer, Letten und Litauer in erster Linie als Nazi-<a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Kollaborateure" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Kollaborateure</span></a> darstellte.</p><p>Putin nutzte genau diese Bewaffnung der Holocaust-Geschichte, als er im Februar letzten Jahres seinen Angriff auf die Ukraine begann und ihn als eine Kampagne der "<a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Entnazifizierung" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Entnazifizierung</span></a>" erklärte. Explizit und ohne Scham, genau wie Bennett. Putin benutzte also den Holocaust, um eine auf den Kopf gestellte Welt zu schaffen: <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Ukraine" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Ukraine</span></a>r, die sich einem brutalen und unprovozierten russischen Angriff ausgesetzt sahen, wurden zu Nazis.</p><p>Aus der Geschichte des Holocausts lassen sich jedoch Lehren für das aktuelle Blutvergießen ziehen.</p><p>Zum einen erinnert sie uns daran, die Stimmen und Perspektiven derjenigen in den Mittelpunkt zu stellen, die staatlicher Gewalt und Völkermord ausgesetzt sind. Das wünschen sich auch zumindest einige der israelischen Überlebenden des Hamas-Angriffs und <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Familienangeh%C3%B6rige" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Familienangehörige</span></a> von israelischen <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Zivilisten" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Zivilisten</span></a>, die in Gaza getötet wurden oder in <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Gefangenschaft" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Gefangenschaft</span></a> sind. Oberste Priorität sollten jetzt die Beendigung der sich ausbreitenden Gewalt, die Rettung von <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Menschenleben" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Menschenleben</span></a> und die Freilassung der israelischen <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Geiseln" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Geiseln</span></a> sowie hunderter palästinensischer Zivilisten, darunter 160 Kinder, sein, die von Israel unrechtmäßig, ohne <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Anklage" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Anklage</span></a> oder <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Prozess" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Prozess</span></a>, festgehalten werden.</p><p>Die Geschichte des Holocaust zeigt auch, wie wichtig die <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Rechenschaftspflicht" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Rechenschaftspflicht</span></a> ist, auch wenn sie nach dem Holocaust nur begrenzt war. Im Falle des israelischen Angriffs auf den Gazastreifen muss die Rechenschaftspflicht bei einem ganz eindeutigen Tatbestand ansetzen: der Anstiftung zum Völkermord, die nach Artikel 3 der UN-<a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/V%C3%B6lkermordkonvention" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Völkermordkonvention</span></a> strafbar ist, auch wenn es nicht zu einem Völkermord kommt. Während die Debatte über den Völkermord bei Israels aktuellem Angriff auf Gaza zweifellos noch jahrelang andauern wird, vielleicht auch vor internationalen Gerichten, sind die israelischen Kriegsverbrechen und Verstöße gegen das humanitäre <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/V%C3%B6lkerrecht" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Völkerrecht</span></a> unbestritten.</p><p>Es wird auch wichtig sein, dass die israelischen Kriegsverbrecher und die Verantwortlichen für die Verstöße gegen das humanitäre Völkerrecht während der jahrelangen Belagerung des Gazastreifens, einschließlich des aktuellen Angriffs, vor Gericht gestellt werden. Auch die palästinensischen Führer und die Palästinenser, die die <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Massengr%C3%A4uel" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Massengräuel</span></a> am 7. Oktober begangen haben, sollten zur Rechenschaft gezogen werden. Internationale <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Gerichte" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Gerichte</span></a> und <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Gerichtsverfahren" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Gerichtsverfahren</span></a> sind wichtig, weil sie das Potenzial haben, zu einem - wenn auch begrenzten - Raum zu werden, in dem <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/%C3%9Cberlebende" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Überlebende</span></a> ihre Geschichten erzählen, ihre Menschlichkeit bekräftigen und <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Wahrheit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Wahrheit</span></a> und <a href="https://mastodon.trueten.de/tags/Gerechtigkeit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Gerechtigkeit</span></a> fordern können.</p><p>In der Tat gibt es keinen Wert, der im Zusammenhang mit der Erforschung des Holocaust und der Erinnerung an ihn vielleicht einen zentraleren Platz einnimmt als die Wahrheit. Keine Gerechtigkeit ist möglich, nicht kurzfristig und schon gar nicht langfristig, ohne eine wahrheitsgemäße Abrechnung darüber, wie es dazu kam.
