@xris @HadasWeiss

Couldnt get a clear grip on your interests from your feed, so came here to say this too. Also markets ( #invisibleHand - theory of moral sentiments, and the wealth of nations) , #qualityControl, and #openBSD, I reckon. I'm delving these at the moment and it's super interesting. Also Enterprise Resource Planning software suites (specifically #ERP5 but it might prove too deep for my delving ability) and sometimes #cybernetics (which goes back to #mathematical #complexity and #communicationTheory ).

@david_chisnall @Uair @thomasfuchs

I just wanted to compliment the elegance of your penultimate sentence:

> "Machine learning is great for use cases where you don't understand the problem well enough to articulate it as a set of rules and where the value of a correct answer significantly outweighs the cost of an incorrect one."

I'm grazing a bit of Quality Control theory at the moment and defining quality is an inherent "problem". Your assertion is a really handy (and broadly applicable) rule of thumb. Thank you!

@Archivist @datarama @munin I think all drugs need #HarmReduction and that #criminalization prevents both proper information and access to care.

  • I'm not saying we should've #Fentanyl Vending Machines (instead we should have professionally staffed "Consumption Rooms" where there's not only trained personnel onsite able and ready to intervene when needed) but that the criminalization and it's effects are more harmful to society overall.

  • Only with a #legalzed access and #consumption will it be possible to enforce #ConsumerProtection, #QualityControl and #YouthProtection as well as offer support and relief where needed.

As for people harming others: That is sufficiently sanctioned in #PenalCode already!

  • It doesn't change the fact that a person gets charged for murder regardless if they used their bare hands, a bajonet, syringe or gun to kill someone.

  • Criminalization doesn't reduce access in the "Post-#Luty & Post-#GFC9" era, but merely makes it harder for investigators to find and match evidence pieces like the gun used.

Basically everything that doesn't inherently cause harm to individuals (i.e. violence), organizations (i.e. theft) or society as a whole (i.e. tax fraud & tax evasion) is a #VictimlessCrime per very definition.

@chu The #CyberTruck has worse #QualityControl and #Craftsmanship than the fucking #Trabant P601 and that thing was a cheap piece of fiber-reinforced phenolic resin on steel tubes with a two-cylinder, two-stroke air-cooled engine that couldn't even bother to have a fuel pump but had to be gravity-fed!

Yet their panel gaps were far less crooked and their cars don't get stained by rain dying up on their surface...

Even the #DeLoream #DMC12 did that #Sheetmetal look better and didn't have the #rust issues...

As the son of a guy who spent his adult life fixing aircraft, fuck every single executive at Boeing who contributed to this. Fuck all the managers who played a part. And, especially, fuck Jim McNerney. Let this be a warning to anybody who thinks good engineers are nothing more than "phenomenally talented assholes".

Those who cared too much about the integrity of the planes and not enough about the stock price were “phenomenally talented assholes,” and he encouraged his deputies to ostracize them into leaving the company. He initially refused to let nearly any of these talented assholes work on the 787 Dreamliner, instead outsourcing the vast majority of the development and engineering design of the brand-new, revolutionary wide-body jet to suppliers, many of which lacked engineering departments.

I bought a meal from a supermarket chain recently - no flies or contamination I could detect but the wrapping was loose and sauce dripped onto the checkout at purchase. I suggested to the supervisor that she remove the others in the same or worse condition. No idea if she did.

#QualityControl at NZ supermarkets needs work! Standards and training would help.
