Because the Mediocre Host was so tardy in posting the #opcSpecialTheme yesterday, I’m sneaking in this photo from my second trip to #Montana in 2007.

This wasn’t my first time crossing into Montana on the trip—we had spent the prior several days in Glacier National Park—but it was the first time I had ever walked across a state border. This sign at Fort Union Trading Post NHS is located between the main parking lot in Montana and the fort in North Dakota.

This is the Villa dei Misteri. It is a Roman villa from the 2nd century BCE. The villa is part of the Pompeii Archaeological Park (Parco Archeologico di Pompei). I took this last year while I was in Italy.

This is a long room with large, vibrant frescas on every wall. The floor has tiles. In the lower left-hand corner is a door going to the next room. A rope stretches across the doorway.
A dried-up, moss-covered pool sits in the middle of the room. A skylight sits above it. There are four large, round pillars sit on the four corners of the pool. Well-preserved tile is visible on the floor and what appears to be an external door is visible on the opposite end of the room.

This is the Foro di Pompei at the Pompeii Archaeological Park (Parco Archeologico di Pompei). You can see the Centauro di Igor Mitoraj in the distance. The foro was ancient Pompeii's main piazza. I took this in 2022 while I was in Italy.

In the lower right-hand corner, there is a clear area made of dark grey stone. Going from the lower left-hand corner to the upper right-hand corner, there are foundational pillars. The most distant pillars are topped with a horizontal stone, followed by another level. A pegasus statue is visible in the distance.

I took this at Pashupatinath Temple (पशुपतिनाथ मन्दिर) in 2022. It is a sacred Hindu temple & cremation site. I was told that the higher your caste, the further up-river your body is cremated. Once your body is ash, they push it into the river.

Running through the middle of the photo is the Bagmati river. On the other side of the river, there is an open-air crematorium. Bodies are being actively burned. Orange and yellow flowers and cloth are visible near the cremation sites.
