It seems like to get my followed-notificationsed friends' toots, I have to visit their instance, find the new toot, whose hashtags I'm also following, copy that url, then search for it on my instance.

Was it always like this? Am I doing something wrong? I don't want to accidentally-part-ways with a bunch of people in different time zones to me.

Question about Mastodon etiquette: I've been thinking of switching servers, and have chosen one I want. However, it's currently set to invite only. I don't personally know anyone in the server that well, but I do have some mutuals there (which is how I found it in the first place).

Would it be rude to just ask them for an invite? Or should I just keep hunting for another server?

For several reasons I'd like to start preparing my transition away from Signal, not necessarily abandoning it entirely (most of my family is on it, now), but at least starting to move my own usage to a #Matrix or #XMPP #bridge.

I see two main possibilities:
- host my own bridge
- use #ElementMatrixServices

Would anyone recommend any of the two (or another possibility)?
I'd also be interested in any review/feedback on #Element in general.

Mhh, just saw this instance [0] that says they use an #h2o #webserver with quic (quick?) http/3 thingies that's supposed to be awesomely fast. Sounds interesting but I'm no idea what this is about...

Could anyone tell me what's behind and whether/why it's interesting, or point me to some easy-to-grasp summary about it?

Hey #inkscape folks, a #mastoquestion...

I have an SVG that I want to export into a PNG for use as an icon, which means the image must be square. But the aspect ratio of the original SVG is not.

How can I export the SVG to a square image without stretching it, or else how can I get inkscape (or some other tool) to draw the void space around it?

I'd like to avoid using PIL just for this but will if necessary.

Hi there fedizens, I'm asking again for your help in these dark times: with the latest mobile #Firefox (well #Fennec) update to 95.1, I am no longer able to access the menu of addons such as #NoScript or #uBlock
Before, I would just click on the hamburger menu (3 vertical dots), click on addons and this would enable me to acces each addon's menu/settings for the current page. No more.
Any idea how to fix this?
